Immunochemical Characterisation of Grass Pollen Allergens in South Africa
نویسنده
چکیده
Because of their worldwide distribution and profuse pollen production, grasses represent a major aeroallergen source for 40% of allergic patients. In Southern Africa there are 94 genera (10% of the world total) and 967 species of grass. Of these, 847 species are indigenous, and 115 are naturalised. Southern Africa comprises both subtropical and temperate regions, where grassland and savannah biomes predominate. The most significant pollens associated with pollinosis in South Africa are those produced by grass. The important tree pollens implicated in pollinosis are mostly from introduced species, and have an important role in early spring, but have a limited duration. Weed and dicotyledon pollens are produced through the summer, but make a lesser contribution.

Subtropical grass pollen allergens are important for allergic respiratory diseases in subtropical regions
BACKGROUND Grass pollen allergens are a major cause of allergic respiratory disease but traditionally prescribing practice for grass pollen allergen-specific immunotherapy has favoured pollen extracts of temperate grasses. Here we aim to compare allergy to subtropical and temperate grass pollens in patients with allergic rhinitis from a subtropical region of Australia. METHODS Sensitization t...
متن کاملThe impacts of climate change and meteorological factors on pollen season indicators of allergenic plant taxa
Pollen respiratory allergies have been increasing in prevalence over the last two decades, partly as the result of the impact of climate change. For many allergenic trees, grass and weed species, increased pollen production and prolonged pollination period result in long-term increased abundance of pollen allergens in the atmosphere; earlier shifts of airborne pollen grains and prolonged exposu...
متن کاملAllergen Microarray Indicates Pooideae Sensitization in Brazilian Grass Pollen Allergic Patients
BACKGROUND Grass pollen, in particular from Lolium multiflorum is a major allergen source in temperate climate zones of Southern Brazil. The IgE sensitization profile of Brazilian grass pollen allergic patients to individual allergen molecules has not been analyzed yet. OBJECTIVE To analyze the IgE sensitization profile of a Brazilian grass pollen allergic population using individual allergen...
متن کاملComparison of Molecular Multiplex and Singleplex Analysis of IgE to Grass Pollen Allergens in Untreated German Grass Pollen-Allergic Patients.
BACKGROUND The ImmunoCAP ISAC 112 platform is the only commercially available molecular allergy IgE multiplex test. Data on the comparison of this rather novel test with the molecular singleplex ImmunoCAP IgE platform are lacking. OBJECTIVE To compare the multiplex ISAC 112 platform and the singleplex ImmunoCAP platform in regard to IgE to grass pollen allergens in untreated grass pollen-alle...

BACKGROUND Grass pollen is one of the most important allergen sources. The aim of this study was to compare the in vivo allergenic activity of two recently characterized major grass pollen allergens, Phl p 4 and Phl p 13, with three established major grass pollen allergens, Phl p 1, Phl p 2 and Phl p 5 as a basis for the formulation of a grass pollen allergy vaccine based on purified allergens....
